Past and future live side by side in Bova thanks to INWIT

INWIT has signed an agreement with the Municipality of Bova to install a Distributed Antenna System, bringing Italy one step closer to the future of connectivity.

A train from the early 1900s greets visitors as they enter the town. Further up, the vestiges of an old Norman castle tower over the village and the surrounding valleys. We are in Bova, Calabria, where past and present live together in the shadow of Aspromonte Mountain.

This duo is experiencing a new and innovative formula thanks to the agreement signed between the Municipality of Bova and INWIT to install a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) capable of guaranteeing locals and tourists full coverage no matter their mobile operator.

The agreement with the Municipality of Bova attests to the attention INWIT pays to Italian villages, which are our real national treasures. Our infrastructures will effectively connect Bova to voice and data mobile communication systems, thereby benefitting both citizens and the increasing number of tourists who come to visit the village.

Bova’s DAS system will bring the village (the Italian Touring Club has granted it an Orange Flag for excellence in hospitality, and it’s officially listed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”) into the future, as the 5G plant is already in place. Bova can take full advantage of every aspect of this innovative communication technology, which is currently being implemented throughout Italy.

Tomorrow’s connectivity

The DAS systems are one of the most important developments for the future of connectivity.

More specifically, numerous micro-antennas in the DAS systems are widely distributed throughout an area and connected via fiber optic cables to an electronic control panel that receives signals from the operators.

The control panel transmits the signal to all of the system elements at level of power and stability that would be unthinkable for large outdoor antennas, thereby guaranteeing a remarkable improvement in reception and customer experience for current mobile telephone systems using 2G, 3G, 4G and 4G+ technologies.

Being so widespread, the micro-antennas serve as essential tools for 5G technology to work correctly, as it needs a constant powerful signal not only to send and receive documents and video content more quickly than today, but also to support all of the innovations linked to the Internet Of Things (IOT).

Thanks to DAS systems in stations, airports, hospitals, shopping centers, stadiums and public areas, INWIT guarantees constant high-quality signal reception from operators and the chance to use innovative services everywhere.
