With INWIT, Italian bank branches are increasingly connected

20 July 2026

A customer signing a contract on a tablet, an adviser checking product availability in real time, a member of staff authenticating via smartphone: digital banking is not only online, but also inside the branch.

This means that connectivity must be guaranteed, stable and fast precisely where the relationship between bank and customer takes place: from advisory areas to self-service points and staff-only spaces.

This is where INWIT’s DAS (Distributed Antenna System) solutions become strategic. Through networks of indoor micro-antennas connected to a central unit, they provide uniform, secure, multi-operator 4G and 5G mobile coverage across every area, whether open to the public or not.

Connectivity reaches the branch

In recent years, INWIT has enabled indoor connectivity in more than 2,500 bank branches across Italy, from north to south, supporting the digitalisation of the entire Italian banking system.

Collaborations with leading banks began in 2020, with coverage of the first 1,000 branches across more than 700 municipalities.

In the following years, coverage expanded steadily, reaching its current widespread presence across the country and confirming the strategic value of this infrastructure initiative.

The digitalisation of Italian banks relies on connectivity

In public-facing areas, uniform coverage enables everything now considered standard in the bank–customer relationship: online banking, electronic signatures, contactless payments and mobile apps. Without a reliable indoor network, these services could work only intermittently precisely where they are needed most.

However, the benefits are not limited to customers: connectivity also enables faster, more secure procedures for bank staff, such as authenticating employees via smartphone, streamlining processes without compromising security.

Moreover, many branches are housed in historic buildings, where thick walls and architectural constraints hinder signal propagation, while others simply do not receive sufficient coverage from outside to support services now taken for granted. INWIT’s DAS solutions are designed for low visual impact and can therefore be easily and seamlessly integrated into existing environments, including those of historic or architectural value.

In bank branches too, behind the connectivity serving customers and staff is INWIT’s digital infrastructure.
