EIB stands beside INWIT for a more connected Italy
Rome, 3 August 2021 – A loan has been signed with the European Investment Bank (EIB) in support of INWIT’s Investment Plan, intended to develop digital infrastructure in Italy to serve telecommunications operators (see press release of 29 July 2021 at https://www.inwit.it/it/comunicati/).
The project is in line with the INWIT Business Plan, which involves investments in the construction of new towers for the distribution of 5G, the deployment of coverage for indoor and outdoor mobile networks such as Small Cells and DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) and to trial new innovative technologies in support of operators.
This network infrastructure will also be available for hosting Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) equipment, to expand coverage of fixed broadband in areas with low- population density.
The loan, worth 250 million euros, will allow INWIT to continue optimising its debt structure pursuing the objectives of extending the duration and reducing the cost.
“This is the first INWIT project funded by the EIB,” stated Giovanni Ferigo, CEO of INWIT, “and it highlights the importance of the work we are doing to develop the country’s infrastructure serving mobile operators and FWA, continuing our contribution to the reduction of the country’s digital divide.”
