The invisible details of luxury: how INWIT’s DAS connects Italy’s high-end hotels

Hotel and resort indoor coverage

The luxury hospitality sector continues to evolve and expand. Alongside designer interiors and high-end services, increasing attention is being paid to detail, personalisation and wellbeing: an experience shaped not only by what guests can see, but also by what they can feel.

Between 2008 and 2024, overnight stays at high-end hotels in Italy grew at an average annual rate of 9.2%, almost twice the market average. Although this segment accounts for around 2% of Italian hotels, it now generates almost 20% of the country’s hotel industry revenue1.

In this context, connectivity has become a key element in delivering a high-quality guest experience. Digital check-in, in-room automation, streaming entertainment and smart concierge services all require a stable, fast network capable of reaching every part of a property, from guest rooms and spas to underground car parks and event spaces.

This is not a simple challenge. Italy’s historic architecture, with its thick walls, shielded glazing and complex layouts, can hinder the penetration of high-speed mobile signals.

This is where INWIT’s Distributed Antenna System (DAS) plays a strategic role. Through a network of indoor micro-antennas connected to a central unit, a DAS distributes 4G and 5G mobile signals evenly, on a multi-operator basis and with high capacity, including in complex environments such as lifts, technical rooms and heritage-protected spaces. This avoids the need for the property to install separate equipment for each operator.

Connectivity reaches every corner of the hotel

INWIT’s solutions bring mobile coverage to private suites, corridors, underground spas and rooftops, providing guests with continuous and reliable connectivity from check-in to check-out.

At the same time, indoor coverage supports hotel staff in their day-to-day activities, improving communication between departments, security, video surveillance and digital services such as room service and concierge.

Stable connectivity also enables advanced building automation features: remote control of air conditioning, lighting and solar shading; smartphone-based door access for mobile check-in without waiting; seamless coordination between housekeeping, maintenance and concierge through dedicated devices; and the integration of sensors for environmental monitoring and advanced video surveillance, including in underground technical rooms.

The result is a smooth, personalised experience in line with international luxury hospitality standards. Compact antennas with low visual impact are discreetly integrated into even the most elegant interiors and historic buildings, without altering their aesthetics.

At Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, the signal stays out of sight

One particularly significant example is the installation delivered by INWIT at Six Senses Rome, located within the historic Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini.

The building’s thick historic walls hampered the quality of mobile communications. The DAS deployed by INWIT covers 3,846 square metres through 15 small antennas, seamlessly integrated into the architecture and hidden from view, providing uniform coverage for mobile phones, tablets and PCs without compromising the elegance of the property.

From the Alps to Sardinia, Italian luxury gets connected

An increasing number of luxury hotels and resorts in Italy are choosing INWIT’s indoor infrastructure, with a widespread presence across the country: 50% in Northern Italy, 35% in Central Italy and 15% in Southern Italy and the Islands.

In the North, examples range from the Alpine Hotel Olangerhof at Plan de Corones to Milan’s new luxury hub, Portrait Milano (Lungarno Collection), housed in the former Archiepiscopal Seminary on Corso Venezia.

In Central Italy, they include the Sina Bernini Bristol in Rome, Italy’s first five-star hotel with 5G, as well as the Six Senses Rome mentioned above.

In the South and the Islands, examples include Borgo Egnazia in Puglia, where INWIT deployed a DAS for the G7 across 45,000 square metres, using 57 micro-antennas and 6 km of fibre, and Hotel Le Dune Piscinas in Sardinia.

For high-end hotels, indoor connectivity is no longer just a service: DAS technology increases the perceived value of a property, supporting both the guest experience and operational efficiency.

Alongside your guests and behind their connectivity is INWIT’s digital infrastructure.
