INWIT’s shared digital infrastructures and “Rome 5G” project

Digital transformation is a process that involves the economy, society, and the environment. Sharing infrastructures means reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and fostering sustainability, while at the same time ensuring more accessible and widespread services.

Connectivity thus becomes the essential condition for developing advanced digital ecosystems: from Public Administration to smart manufacturing, from connected schools to telemedicine. Rome, with its heritage and millions of residents and tourists, represents both a challenge and a unique opportunity.

The “Rome 5G” project responds to this need, combining innovation, digital inclusion, and enhancement of the local area, thanks to the commitment of Smart City Roma, a company within the INWIT Group.

“Sharing” allows us to maximize the use of existing infrastructure capacity, avoiding duplication. This generates significant economic effects across the telecommunications supply chain and for the country’s economy, while also reducing environmental impact and negative externalities, improving the accessibility and reach of services.

We are a key enabler of digitalization: from Public Administration to Smart Manufacturing 5.0, from connected schools to precision agriculture, from telemedicine to transportation.
Without infrastructures enabling stable and widespread 4G and 5G connectivity across the national territory, digital transformation would not be possible.

Rome 5G Project: smart infrastructures that respect the artistic heritage

Rome is hungry for connectivity: with 2.75 million official residents (a figure that rises to over 4.2 million when including the 121 municipalities of the Metropolitan City) and one of the richest cultural heritages in the world, it attracts more than 22 million tourists every year, plus an additional 15 million during the Jubilee year.

The “Rome 5G” Project is the answer: technology at the service of people — an urban transformation model that combines innovation, heritage, and digital inclusion.
It is implemented by Smart City Roma, a company of the INWIT Group, Italy’s leading tower operator and one of the main digital infrastructure companies.
