INWIT publishes the first Climate Transition Plan
The plan strengthens the company’s strategy for the transition to a zero-emission economy
INWIT has announced the publication of its first Climate Transition Plan, a plan that integrates and enhances the corporate strategy for the transition to a zero-emission economy. The document represents a concrete commitment by INWIT in the fight against climate change, outlining clear objectives and targeted initiatives to achieve these goals in compliance with the established deadlines.
The objectives of the Climate Transition Plan
The Climate Transition Plan offers a comprehensive vision of the decarbonisation actions introduced by the company, with the aim of contributing to limiting global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement.
One of the most relevant objectives is the Net Zero target by 2040, validated in January 2024 by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). An ambitious goal that strengthens INWIT’s path towards a low-carbon economy and is added to the target of a 42% reduction in direct and indirect emissions by 2030 (GHG Scope 1 and 2), compared to 2020 levels, validated by SBTi already in 2022.
The initiatives of the Climate Transition Plan
The initiatives planned and implemented to reach these objectives include the adoption of innovative technologies to improve the energy efficiency, the purchase and self-production of energy by renewable sources, and responsibility to reduce the emissions impact along the production chain. Especially, INWIT work closely with suppliers to reduce emissions related to the production of steel infrastructure, with an apporach inspired to the circular economy.
Simultaneously, INWIT contributes to the global reduction of emissions, by financing climate action projects through the purchase of certified carbon credits. Thanks to these actions, in 2024 the Company will reach the Carbon Neutrality to the emissions about Scope 1 and 2 and it will continue until the target Net Zero goal.
The results of Climate Transition Plan
To monitoring progress of the plan, INWIT INWIT calculates direct and indirect emissions annually and reports the results in its Integrated Report. Furthermore the Company check risks and opportunities related to climate change, to ensure own business is more resilient.
Michelangelo Suigo, Director of External Relations, Communication and Sustainability at INWIT, stated:
“With the first Climate Transition Plan, we confirm our commitment to the fight against climate change, providing evidence and transparency to the decarbonization plan and the actions we are implementing and intend to implement to reach Net Zero by 2040, one of the main environmental objectives set out in the corporate Sustainability Plan. This is how we continue to implement the transition path towards an increasingly sustainable business model”.
