INWIT brings “5G Ready” digital infrastructure in more than 10 italian universities
Golinelli (INWIT): “With our dedicated DAS coverage system for indoor locations we are enabling increasingly innovative and high-performing services in leading universities”.
Rome, 24 May 2024 – Digital universities are becoming increasingly cutting-edge, with innovative tools that mean students can be more effectively prepared for the world of work. INWIT, Italy’s main tower operator, has now created DAS technology infrastructure in more than 10 Italian universities, to enable mobile network connections, with 5G, open to all operators using infrastructure for dedicated multi-operator DAS (Distributed Antenna System) coverage for indoor locations.
Both private and public universities have opted for the connection, with a higher geographical concentration in the regions of central and southern Italy.
In the north, the connected structures are located in Lombardy, in central Italy they are mainly in Lazio and in the Marche, while in the south the universities that are currently the most digitalised are primarily in Sicily and Calabria.
The DAS, made up of discreet 5G ready micro-antennas connected to each other that can be perfectly adapted even to buildings with particular architectural value, creates an efficient, fast and high-performing dedicated network in a logic of neutral host serving all mobile operators.
The DAS provides an enabling infrastructure to support students, teachers and all university staff, as well as allowing many processes to be accelerated, streamlining the bureaucracy.
The added possibility of developing the IoT (Internet of Things), with a stable and efficient signal, will pave the way for the teaching of the future, putting these universities at the cutting edge.
Faculties already equipped with these dedicated coverage systems include the lecture rooms and laboratories of the Engineering Departments of the Federico II University on the San Giovanni a Teduccio Campus (Naples) and the four teaching facilities of the Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome
“We continue to work to enable digitisation also within universities throughout Italy with cutting-edge infrastructure which, with our system of micro-antennas, enables multi-operator connectivity and can provide students and teaching staff with increasingly innovative and high-performing services – commented Lucio Golinelli, INWIT’s Commercial Department Director”.
